What is brew?

After successfully organizing the initial premodern tournaments and playing a lot of tournaments ourselves we see the competitive landscape evolving. Where in the initial years the iconic deck the Rock did see a lot of play over the years the format matured and some decks are not powerful enough to see results in tournaments.

As players and organizers we have a lot of niche decks we build, created ourselves or known decks which are classified as tier 2, tier 3 and tier 4. We do love to play these decks but they are mostly played at home with friends.

Since multiple players have a niche deck they love to play but don’t consider it good enough for a regular tournament we decided to start organizing brewer special tournaments. Only for this event we have a custom additional banlist where we looked at the specific cards which can be found in all Tier 1 and Tier 1.5 decks and are so powerful that they are dominant in today competitive scene.

So players who like to brew can have a fantastic day where all players either come with a classic lower tier deck or a creative special brew with a mechanic nobody knows or they thought off them self. The phrase “we got a reader” is symbolic, even we as TO and experienced players know almost all cards and are often surprised by “new” cards, mechanics and original gameplays and board states. With the brew tournaments the competitive level is more casual, the fun is multiplied and it’s a great starting point if you are new to premodern and want to play exact the deck you used to play at your kitchen table with high school friends.
